Eiffel Tower

Description

One of the most recognizable structures in the world and a representation of Paris, France, is the Eiffel Tower. The tower was built in 1889 as the focal point of the Exposition Universelle, a world's fair staged to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. It has since grown to be one of the most well-known and adored buildings on the planet.

When it was finished, the Eiffel Tower was the tallest man-made structure in the world, standing at a height of 324 meters (1,063 ft). Millions of people visit it every year, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world today.

The tower is made of wrought iron and has four tall legs that come together at the summit at a single point. The tower has a square base with sides that measure 125 meters (410 feet) each, and it tapers to a narrow point at the top. The tower has three storeys, each of which can be reached by elevator or by ascending a flight of stairs.

At 57 meters (187 feet) in height, the first level of the Eiffel Tower houses a number of tourist attractions, including a gift store, a museum, and many dining options. At a height of 115 meters (377 feet), the second level provides panoramic views of Paris along with additional eating options and an outside observation deck. At 276 meters (905 feet) in height, the third and top level of the tower provides breathtaking views of the city and its surrounds.

Many movies, TV shows, and artistic creations have included the Eiffel Tower, which has come to represent Paris and France forever. Several significant occasions, such as the first transatlantic radio transmission in 1901 and the lighting of the Olympic flame at the Summer Olympics in 1924, have also taken place there.

The Eiffel Tower is a well-known tourist destination, but it has also been the target of various terrorist plots over the years, leading the French government to put in place a number of security measures to safeguard the building and its patrons.
